FLY
FISHING TUITION IN THE HAUTE-VIENNE
Tony holds the STANIC(Trout) qualification. When based in the
UK he helped teach upwards of 200 adults and children in the
art of casting and fishing the fly.
He worked a great deal of time at Chirk Fly fishery in North
Wales with Gwilym Hughes.
Tuition covers roll casts, overhead casts, single and double
haul casts, casts for overcoming adverse wind direction and
moving water and an introduction to entomology.
Tony is registered to teach in France and has full third party
liability insurance.
Tuition
costs are 25,00 euros per hour unless you are a guest at Le
Petit Verger in which case there is a reduction of 5 euros.
We also offer an introductory package at our local fishery
consisting of the following:
Please note: we cannot offer any courses until Aug
1st 2011, this is due to the work that we have to do on the
new gite, thanks for your understanding.
Fly fishing Courses.
Three hour one to one course at Domaine
De Jarlat.*Normally available April - November*
Please note: we cannot offer any courses until
Aug 1st 2011, this is due to the work that we have
to do on the new gite, thanks for your understanding.
The session starts with a coffee and a chat about
entomology, followed by an explanation of the tackle
that we use. We then move on to casting tuition covering
the roll cast and overhead cast, plus others.
You can then use your newly acquired skills to fish
for trout on the fly. The cost of the course is 50,00
euros. The fee includes - tuition, fishery fees, travel
and tackle hire.
This is an ideal experience as the techniques that
you learn can be practiced straight away on a water
containing trout, and you can keep what you catch
up to a maximum of 5 trout.
In
2011, we shall be offering group instruction sessions
at a reduced rate, based at a private and exclusive
lake here in Dept 87.
These will be run over the course of a day, and will
include tuition, tackle hire, coffee, lunch and a
beer afterwards.
Why not get together with some friends and a have
a day out with a difference - and trout for tea perhaps?
Full
details will appear here on the site as plans develop.
If
you'd like to be kept up to date on these courses,

FISHING
REGULATIONS
A full years licence to fish most of France costs €80,00 and
enables the holder to fish 1st and 2nd category waters. This amount
varies a little between departments.
There
is a distinction between 1st and 2nd Category Lakes and rivers in
the region.
1st
(Premiere) Category Lakes and Rivers are predominantly inhabited by
game fish. Season mid March - end Sept
2nd
(Deuxieme) Category Lakes and Rivers are predominantly inhabited by
coarse fish. Season, mostly all year
The
holiday licence is now available from June 1st - December 31st and
costs €32,00 for a period of 15 days. This entitles you to fish
within the Haute Vienne, and enables the holder to fish 1st and 2nd
category waters. For other regions it costs around the same amount.
Daily
licences are now available for just €10 and can be purchased
from January 1st - December 31st. If you wish to fish in the bordering
departments to the Haute Vienne, these are available also. This enables
anglers to fish earlier in the season which is great news. This too
permits the holder to fish 1st and 2nd category waters. This is the
perfect solution if you only wish to fish for a day or so when staying
here. The daily permits only cover the department
in which they are issued, i.e. Haute Vienne 87, Charente 16 or Dordogne
24. The Haute Vienne permits are available at our local Boulangerie
or from us and are a necessity to fish legally in the region. There
are some lakes locally that do not require anglers to be in possession
of a permit, although there is usually a daily ticket fee.
To
see full information on fishing rules and regulations in english for
the Haute Vienne click here
In the lakes and rivers local to us you will find Trout, Chub,
Carp, Pike, Zander, Perch, Shad and other species.
We
now offer coarse and fly fishing tackle hire on a daily or weekly
basis.
We can cater for parties of up to 6 anglers please visit our sister
site Limousin
Fishing They are based just up the lane from us at Tamisac and
offer a gite that sleeps up to four people.
VENUES
LOCALLY
RIVER
VIENNE: This area of France is well known for the river Dordogne.
However there are two other major river systems. The Vienne
and the Charente. The Charente starts about 30 mins away from
us before winding its way to the coast many kilometres away.
The Vienne is a beautiful river, mostly slow flowing and picturesque
which runs eventually into the River Loire. We are less than
20 minutes away from the River Vienne with easy access to the
river and parking close by. T he
Vienne is a category 2 river so can be fished all year long.
It offers deep slow stretches, fishable from the banks, or you
can wade easily towards the weir from late spring until late
autumn, depending on river levels of course. The river has produced
good chub and roach, both on fly tackle throughout the summer.
There is a small trout stream which is a tributary of the Vienne
not far away, so trout can sometimes be found in the river too.

DOMAINE
DE JARLAT: This is a beautiful, well maintained and well
stocked fishery.
Just over 10 minutes away from us, the fishery is owned
and run by a charming Frenchman, Patrick. Patrick is an
all round angler and has set up one of the best fisheries
we have seen locally. You have a choice to fish conventionally
or with the fly. There is dedicated trout lake and the larger
of the three lakes is stocked with carp, perch, roach, tench,
pike, sturgeon and zander. Both of the two larger lakes
offer fly fishermen some interesting opportunities to catch
fish other than trout, on the fly.
On site you will find a snack bar and toilets with showers,
should you wish to fish all day/night. No licence is needed
to fish the lakes.
Prices
are extremely reasonable.
Click Domaine
de Jarlat for more details.

L'ETANG
MASSELLIEVRE
A
beautiful and secluded lake about 8 kilometres from our
farmhouse. You climb into the hills surrounding the tardoire
valley before reaching the lake. Stocked with trout, pike,
perch and other coarse fish, fishing is any method. There
is ample room for back casting if you fish the fly.
Usually very quiet, the lake also offers picnic tables around
its banks with ample parking. Open from mid April until
mid October.
Prices
for 2009 are a very reasonable 6€ per day with no other
permit needed.

|
|
RIVER
TARDOIRE: Just down the lane from our farmhouse you find
the River Tardoire. A 1st category river. A small brook
for the most part with all of the features that you would
expect from a small stream. It is stocked with beautiful
brown trout throughout the season by our local fishing club.
Although tricky to fish with the fly for the most part,
there are a few clear areas where you can cast to the trout.
It also has a lovely little picnic area for partners who
would rather sit by the river and read a book or just enjoy
the peace and quiet with a bottle of red wine.

|
|
GORRE
LAKE: Just 10 minutes away from our gite you will find this
lake at Gorre. Sitting next to a 13th century church, the
lake is regularly stocked with carp ranging between 1lb
to 6 lb. Fishing is any method and you can take a couple
to eat if you wish.......... Day tickets are available for
5,00 euros, or 3,00 euros for half a day. Great sport on
coarse or fly tackle. Normally open March - October.

LA
MORDOREE RESERVOIR:
A
2 hectare fly only stillwater stocked with many species of
trout and black bass in a quiet
corner of the Charente just 35 mins drive from our gite. Fly
fishing only into 15 metres of clear water. There is a pedalo
available and float tubing is allowed.
You'll see browns, rainbows, blues, and golden
trout. Black bass patrol the margins with few coarse fish
too. In all this fishery makes for an interesting day out.
It fishes best in autumn as during the summer the fish tend
to stay well down near the spring inlet at the bottom of the
lake.
|
|
| BUSSIERE
GALLANT: Just 20 mins drive away from us you will find the
Plan D'eau at Bussiere Gallant.
This is a free to fish ( as long as you have a licence) water.
Essentially stocked with coarse fish, having carp up to 12lb
+ , perch and others. This is a category 1 water.
At the opening of this years season, I had the pleasure of
catching small perch on a gold head nymph. Not large specimens,
but bags of fun and in quiet surroundings.
|
|
PISCICULTURE
DU BREUILH A
stocked fishery just 20 mins away into the Dordogne region.
The lake is stocked by the owner who also runs a fish farm.
This is the farm that supplies our local river Tardoire. Tranquility
doesn't come much better than this. Easy casting from 2 banks
with a fly with roll casting being the option of the other.
You can also fish with worms and conventional tackle, making
this an interesting proposition for all anglers.

|
|
ST
MATHIEU LAKE: The lake is just 10 mins from us. This is a
mixed water where although we have never seen trout, perch,
chub and carp to a good size have been spotted. A 14 hectare
lake with artificial beach and lots of small bays to explore.
Depth varies from 1 metre or so to over 5 metres.
The 'Grange de Lac" restaurant and bar on the lakeside
is open from 10.00 am - 10.00 pm, serving meals, snacks and
drinks.
